Itiana Shingiskhanova delivered a landmark moment for Kazakhstan by claiming the BC2 title at the recent Astana 2025 World Boccia Challenger — the first international boccia tournament ever staged in the country.

The Astana-born athlete sealed her crown in front of home supporters with a series of dominant performances, underlining both her own talent and the growing stature of Paralympic sport in Kazakhstan.

Shingiskhanova overcame Uzbekistan’s Gulkhayo Kimsanboeva 5–2 in the semi-final, before powering to an 8–3 victory against South Korea’s Eunju Hyun to secure the championship.

The tournament, held in the capital from August 20 to 28, marked the first time Kazakhstan had hosted a global boccia competition.
