World Boccia has unfortunately received the sad news that Thomas Knoth has died. Our thoughts are with his team-mates, family and friends at this difficult time.

Dear Boccia World,

It is my sad duty to inform the boccia family that our longest serving boccia athlete Thomas Knoth BC 3 passed away on 24 February.

Thomas started his boccia career in 2008 and quickly became a national player for Germany. He took part in World and European Championships and numerous BISfed tournaments and was recognised and respected by athletes, coaches and officials as a fair, ambitious and passionate athlete.

In his BC 3 class, he became 8-time German champion.

Most recently, he was still planning to take part in several World Boccia tournaments and in direct preparation for the Challenger in Zagreb.

The boccia world has lost an exceptional athlete and person who played boccia at the highest level despite his severe disability.

The German Paralympic Boccia Team has lost a dedicated team-mate who will always be remembered as a role model for many people, with or without disabilities.
