BISFed would like to clarify the International Paralympic Committee’s requirement regarding female quotas for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games before registration for the BISFed 2016 Individual World Championships begins. The BISFed 2016 Individual World Championships will be the last opportunity for athletes to earn points on the BISFed World Ranking List before March 30th 2016 which is the deadline for qualification for the Rio Paralympic Games.

Please note that 28 of the 108 boccia slots for the Rio Paralympic Games must be female, and to achieve at least 28 female athletes, the following quota will apply;
Female quota for the Paralympic Games*

  • At least one (1) female athlete for NPCs qualifying one (1) Team or Pair;
  • At least two (2) female athletes for NPCs qualifying two (2) or three (3) Team/Pairs.
  • The highest ranked individual female in each of the BC1, BC2, BC3 and BC4 category from a NPC not already qualified in Team and Pairs

Please note that each NPC will need to comply with the female quota for the Team and Pair event, irrespective of what may or may not happen with an individual athlete’s qualification status. As an example if an NPC qualifies a BC3 Pair and a BC4 Pair, that NPC will need to register a minimum of 1 female in each Pair (2 in total) in addition to any female athlete(s) who also qualifies in the BC1 or BC2 category.

Please do not hesitate to contact the BISFed Office at [email protected] if you have any questions.
